Formulas for calculating customs payments
For goods with a total invoice value of more than 150 EUR, but not more than 10,000 EUR (duty is 10% of the amount exceeding 150 EUR; VAT is 20% of the amount exceeding 150 EUR and previously accrued duty).
If you plan to buy, for example, an iPhone, which costs $600 you would need to use the following formula:
Cost of purchase: 600 $ (530 EUR)
Duty: (530 EUR – 150 EUR) * 10% = 38 EUR
VAT: (530 EUR – 150 EUR + 38 EUR) * 20% = 83.6 EUR
Total customs payment: 38 EUR + 83.6 EUR = 121.6 EUR
Payment of customs duties is made in hryvnias, at the rate of the NBU on the date of submission of the customs declaration.
For goods with a total invoice value greater than 150 EUR but not exceeding 10,000 EUR, the duty is calculated as 10% of the amount that exceeds 150 EUR. VAT is applied at 20% to the sum of the amount exceeding 150 EUR and the previously accrued duty.
For example, if you purchase an iPhone for $600 (530 EUR):
Cost of purchase: 600 $ (530 EUR)
Duty: (530 EUR – 150 EUR) * 10% = 38 EUR
VAT: (530 EUR – 150 EUR + 38 EUR) * 20% = 83.6 EUR
Total customs payment: 38 EUR + 83.6 EUR = 121.6 EUR
Payment of customs duties must be made in Ukrainian hryvnias, according to the official exchange rate of the National Bank of Ukraine on the date the customs declaration is filed.
All goods up to 150 EUR are tax-free.
